Debconf24 in Busan, South Korea

Last update November 1, 2024

This is a late souvenir about the Debian Developers Conference which took place this year in Busan, South Korea. It’s also my public thank you for all the local volunteers who made it happen.

A few notes:

  • Debconf incredibly boosts my motivation to keep working for Debian. It’s a privilege being able to meet each other in person once a year. I wish more contributors could make it.

  • After each Debconf, we see a growing demand for new members. And at the next Debconf, I’m always happy to see new members from the previous one taking part and helping potential new members locally.

  • It was wonderful to hang out with my new Indian friends this year! Many for whom it was their first trip to a Debconf after organizing the event in Kotchi in 2023.

  • I’m myself also product of Debconf :-) My first Debconf was in 2004 in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Since then I’ve only missed three of them! And I happened to be one of the local organizers of Debconf17 in Montreal – an experience that has gifted me with great friendships and a super active local community ever since.

  • A role in Debian that has interested me a lot is outreaching. In that sense, I presented a talk and a BoF on https://contributors.debian.org, and participated in the New Members BoF, as a newbie Front Desk team member. All Debconf24 video can be found here.

  • I’m already preparing some activities for the next Debconf in Brest, France. It was a quick chatting about it with my partner (also a Debian person!) which prompted me to write these closing words about Debconf24.

  • Busan is good.
