Short bio
From the beginning of my studies in the early 2000s, I found myself fascinated by the collaborative aspect of hacker culture. Hence I got into FLOSS and became part of the Debian GNU/Linux community. In 2005, I completed a bachelor’s in Computer Science and worked as GNU/Linux instructor at the university, as well as with governments, NGOs, and law enforcement.
In 2008, I was invited to work in the Brazilian Senate for a parliamentary committee investigating online crimes committed against minors. This led to important regulatory changes in the country. I then wrote a technical book on combating human rights violations on the internet that was adopted as an official guide by the Brazilian authorities.
Later in life, I moved abroad and returned to studying music. At the Université de Montréal, I completed a major, then a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Composition & Music Technology. During this time I worked for makerspaces and artists, offering technical assistance and consulting services.
Things never stop changing and I’m now a CS teacher at Vanier College (teaching tech right now isn’t always easy, but I’m finding the whole experience pretty fascinating!).
Finally, I’m an enthusiastic student of Vipassana meditation, and this has also been a painfully fascinating journey :-)
